FAQ

Can I pay for lessons as I go?

Lessons are paid for in monthly instalments at the beginning of the month. This shows a commitment to the club and also assures you of a place in our relatively small but intimate classes. There is a lot to learn so a minimum attendance of twice a week is encouraged. Only through regular attendance can a student hope to progress through our syllabus.

Is my child too young?

Every child is different and will have different levels of attention. The best way of finding out if they can focus is to book a trial lesson and see how your child copes with a lesson. Trial lessons have to be arranged with the instructor and are held on Fridays at 5:30.

Am I too old?

Some of the exercises are quite physically demanding, however all ages attend and the classes will be tailored to your own fitness level. Adult classes have mixed abilities from beginner to advanced so all members can practice and learn off each other. Whatever your age or fitness level our classes can help you achieve your fitness, self defence goals.

Will I get hurt?

For beginners contact or sparring is minimal. The worst you can expect is maybe a sore or pulled muscle. But this can happen whilst running for the bus. In general beginners will be eased into the training routine and not rushed which can cause injury.

How does the belt grading system work?

Gradings are held every few months at Codner's Taekwondo Academy, Hackney. The decision as to whether a student is ready for grading is completely down to the instructor. He is the only person qualified to decide if someone is ready for grading.

Am I expected to do gradings?

Grading are there as a means to achieve personal goals rather than an enforced examination. We do encourage you to progress up the belt system but if you just want to get fit and have fun then that's OK too!
